Detailed Podcast Schedule

Pre-launch episodes
Our Promo is a quick promotional introduction to the podcast.

In the first episode we discuss the moral and ethical dilemma's surrounding the Federation's decision to sign the Treaty of Algeron in 2311. A peace accord making it illegal for them to use cloaking technology. I have the honour of introducing myself first!

In this episode we have a little bit of fun! As we play one of the most fun and unpredictable games related to Star Trek on the internet. The Memory Alpha Random Page Game is a pastime that makes use of the website's Random Page function. The game can be played as a single player or multiplayer.

You play by pressing the button and seeing who has the most interesting page. The person who gets the most interesting pages overall is the winner! Phil had the opportunity of introducing himself in this Teaser Episode!

In the final episode we debate, which era is the optimum time to be living on Earth in the Federation. To work this out we used a criteria. The points of comparison were the technological advances, the chances of survival and the feelings of security. Jamie had pleasure of starting this Teaser Episode!

In the final episode of 2015, we start up yet another annual episode type!
In this case we're of course talking about the podcast's 'clip show', which as you may imagine revolves around our favourite moments from the podcast's past.
Ranging from a lot of clips which originate in our 'Lost Files' way back when (which in some cases you won't have heard), to our most recent work...so be warned the sound will go from one extreme to another!
We hope you all have a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!!!

In our first episode of 2016, we are talking all things Vulcan!
As may tell from the title, we discuss the ramifications the discovery of Surak's Kir'Shara had on the planet...which would go on to became a founding member of Federation.
Before going onto talking about the amazing differences in the anatomy between Humans and Vulcans!
On top of all that, we also start up our annual podcast Quiz...with some interesting results!!!

In our first interview for this year, we talk to Manu Intiraymi (most known for playing Icheb from Star Trek: Voyager) about his current projects including The Circuit Movie and the 'Unbelievable!!!!!' (his other film project) amongst other things!
Unfortunately due to an unexpected family emergency, Jamie was unable to join us for the recording. Meaning that me (Simon) & Phil got to speak briefly to him during a break in his busy work schedule.

To find out more about The Circuit Movie please go to their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/thecircuitmovie/

In this episode we talk all about tropes, and only ‘scratch the surface’ when it comes to tropes related to the Star Trek franchise!
Just go to the tvtropes.org page to see what I mean!!!
But we couldn’t cover this topic alone, so we were joined once again by the lovely Sarah from the Trekkie Girls.
Who’s most known for being their (sometimes naughty) Trekkie in Training (TiT). As you may expect, it didn’t take us long to get off topic!
Meaning that the episode quickly descends into something a bit silly and naughty (#NaughtyTiT). Which unfortunately means that the occasional swear word can be heard in this episode.

Following on from our previous Tribble episode commentary ("Trouble with Tribbles" from Star Trek: The Original Series [TOS]).
We do a commentary through the second Tribble related episode...."More Tribbles, More Troubles" from Star Trek: The Animated Series (TAS).
Due to the length of the episode, we decided take some time to discuss the three most famous pets (or animals) from within the Star Trek universe...including the Tribble, Sehlet Cub and the Klingon Targ!
We hope you enjoy our commentary!!!

In this edition of the podcast, we are once again joined by Wil Ross & David Limburg (from FCD Events) about next month's "Out of the ashes" event...where we are one of the Social Media Providers for the event!
We talk to them all about the day, and the rough schedule they have planned. Before slightly going off topic (as per usual), by discussing some of the attractions to visit on route up to the event. Please note that this episode 'may' contain a bit of swearing.

To find out more please go to their website: www.fcd2016.com

In this weeks show, we discuss all things 'redshirt' from the days where the term meant nothing except for an instant painful death. To the later years, where it transitioned into the respectively safe occupation of being in a level of command!
We hope you enjoy the episode!!!

As we prepare to do our FCD “Out of the ashes” with Clive (Some Kind of Star Trek) and Steven (Geek Apocalypse).
We're releasing this Pre-recorded episode all the way from October 2012, when we attended the Saturday & Sunday of the first Destination Star Trek convention. As you can imagine we get quite excited (in parts)...so I'd recommend you listening to it at a lower volume!

As you might expect from this kind of episode, we finally get around to giving our thoughts (and opinions) on FCD “Out of the ashes”. Where we were Social Media Providers for the event alongside Clive (Some Kind of Star Trek) and Steven (Geek Apocalypse).
Unfortunately due to an unexpected family emergency, Clive was unable to join us for the episode, so we carried on with just Steven.
Please note that this episode contains some swearing.

In this episode, me (Simon) and Jamie continue our discussion on Role Models in Star Trek! Just like before, we talk about issues ranging from the characters that we admire to the franchise and it's mythology!
Although Phil isn't in this episode you hear his thought on the topic by listening to our original Star Trek Role Models episode.
You can also read about Jamie's real life and Star Trek role models in his blog post!

Star Trek Snog Marry Avoid feat. Trekkie Girls Done

In this very special episode, we venture all the way down to Portsmouth to record an episode 'tailor made' for our very gracious hosts (come podcast guests)...the Trekkie Girls!
If you've watched any of the girls YouTube videos, you know they're renowned for being naughty.
So I (Simon) thought we'd do an episode perfectly suited for them...Star Trek Snog Marry Avoid!

Where we each get to choose some Star Trek characters we'd either like to Snog, Marry or Avoid. Although (unsuprisingly) things got out of hand, so you can expect the occasional swear word.

On top of that, the girls also become (historically) our first Guest Quizmasters. As they ask us some joint podcast Quiz questions, which go towards our Annual podcast Quiz scores!

Unfortunately due to work commitments Carole was unable to make the recording. I've also just got to point out that due to an unfamilar set up, the sound quality is a bit poor in places.
That being said, we hope you enjoy the episode!!!

In this episode, we talk about my (Simon) first General Interest…the tragically short life of Anne Frank.
Her story is something I feel strongly (and passionately) about, as it poses many important questions about equality, prejudice, discrimination, morality and ethics.
Whilst also making you think about “what it means to be human?”, which happens to be our next topic!

What it means to be Human? Done

Carrying on from our last podcast, we do indeed continue the discussion raised by my (Simon) General Interest in Anne frank about “what it means to be human?”.
Picking up threads we've 'attempted' to answer in previous episodes, including Role Models (Part 1 & Part 2) and Life Lessons.
Whilst delving into the on-going conflict between nature over nurture.
Please note that this episode also contains the occasional swear word.

Season Review- TNG Season 2 Done

In this edition of the podcast, we do our second Season Review! Discussing the Morals, Messages and Meanings (3 M's) associated with the episodes in Season 2 of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Once again we're joined by our very special guest in the form of Sarah, The Trekkie In Training (TiT) from the Trekkie Girls!!!

Star Trek Beyond Special Done

In this edition of the podcast, we discuss our thoughts and feelings after finally getting to see the film together. As Jamie, saw Star Trek Beyond on the day of it's release worldwide (22nd July 2016).
Which meanings that we all come to completely different conclusions about the film!

Please note that this episode also contains the occasional swear word.

Matter/energy podcast Done

In the first episode since our month long hiatus, we talk through three of the most essential pieces of technology Starfleet officers rely on!
Each (Transporter, Replicator & Holodeck) uses the conversion between matter and energy in slightly different ways. Which we discuss including there uses and limitations.
We also carry on with our Annual podcast Quiz with a series of questions!!!

Days that changed the universe Done

As I'm sure you can tell from the title of this episode, we discuss five important dates in Star Trek history including:
  • Discovery of the wormhole- Bajor
  • Battle of sector 001
  • Battle of Wolf 359
  • First Contact
  • Finding the Kir'Shara- Vulcan
Selected totally at random from ten preselected events (which we talk about it episode). The events left over from this show, will fittingly be chosen again at random on a later date in this episode accompanying second part!

We also carry on with our Annual podcast Quiz with a series of questions!!!

In this episode we talk frankly about our thoughts and feelings of the event organised by Showmasters.
While explaining what experiences we had, and have taken away from it!

The Circuit Movie update interview Done

In our last interview for 2016, we talk to Manu Intiraymi and Valerie Marie Leslie again for an update on The Circuit Movie. Since we last spoke to them back in January, including the great news that they've found a Private Investor for the film. Forcing them to postpone their Kickstarter campaign until March of next year.

Star Trek’s 50th Anniversary Retrospective Done

As you can tell from the title of this episode, we discuss the main events in the Star Trek franchise from this year's 50th Anniversary including:
  • Star Trek Beyond (and Fan Event)
  • Anton Yelchin passing away
  • Destination Star Trek Europe convention
  • Star Trek Las Vegas convention
  • Star Trek Mission New York convention
We also carry on with our Annual podcast Quiz with our penultimate series of questions!!!

Absent Friends 2016 Done

In this (annual) edition of the podcast, we discuss (and celebrate) the lives of four people associated with the Star Trek franchise we lost this year, and in previous years.
In this years episode we talk about one actor (Anton Yelchin), and three members of production (Gary Hutzel, Charles Washburn & Penny Juday).
My they all Rest In Peace.

General Chat ‘Tangent City’ podcast Done

In our penultimate episode for 2016, we fulfil a dream we've had ever since we launched way back when in 2014. Which (as you might know) was to record an episode without any topic (and by extension any accompanying research). Meaning that the conversation could go quite literally in any direction!
In this instance with a little bit of help from my (Simon) questions, we talk about things ranging from our School years, to the holidays we've spent together via Poker and the Harry Potter franchise.

Talking of questions, we also conclude this year Quiz. By doing two rounds of questions, which concluded with the cup handing over ceremony and forfeit.
We hope you enjoy it!!!

Yearbook 2016 Done

In the final episode of 2016, we cover our other annual episode type!
By of course talking about the podcast's 'clip show', which as you may imagine revolves around our favourite moments from the podcast's past.
Ranging from a lot of clips which originate in our 'Lost Files' way back when (which in some cases you won't have heard), to our most recent work...so be warned the sound will go from one extreme to another!
We hope you all had a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!!!

In the first episode of 2017, we conclude our look back at all things 'redshirt'!
As we've realised that we completely neglected the 'command' element of being a 'redshirt' in our previous episode. So we wanted to make up for the shortfall.
We also start up this years Annual podcast Quiz with two rounds of topic related questions!!!

In this episode of the podcast, we are joined by our first guest of the year Mark Hughes. A writer for the Geek Pride website.
As we do a Star Trek themed Room 101 looking at Phil, Jamie and Mark's pet hates. All with the aim of convincing me (Simon) to banish their choice (in each category) into Room 101.
Which includes a Star Trek themed Room 101 sound effect specially created for this episode by me (Simon)!
The categories are:
  • People- Anything related to a person/people or type of person in or related to the Star Trek universe (including fandom)
  • Shopping- Anything related to Star Trek merchandise or something related in the Star Trek universe.
  • Transport- Anything related to the movement of people in the Star Trek universe.
  • Wild Card- No restraints, literally anything you want!
We'd also like to say that (unfortunately) due to technical difficulties, the episode hasn't turned out as we would have liked. But that aside, we hope you enjoy the episode!!!

With just an hour before we starting to record our organised episode (Evolution to a higher species) my Mum (our guest) got 'cold feet' due to a frightfully tough day.
Meaning that (for at least now) we've postponed the recording of that episode until later on in the year. So thinking on our feet me (Simon) & Jamie decided to head over to social media to see what questions you guys could come up with!
Thank you for all those who contributed at short notice!!!

Starships Done

In this edition of the podcast, we finally delve into the deeply confusing and complex world of Starfleet starship designs. An episode I've (Simon) wanted to do ever since we conceived of the podcast.
We spend our time looking at all the 'Hero' ships, whilst talking about the wide variety of other Federation designs that appeared across all the different eras!

This was helped by contributions on Social Media (including Twitter and Facebook), who's opinions are mentioned in the episode!
Thank you for all those who contributed!!!

In this episode of the podcast, we conclude our discussion on (ten preselected events) important dates in Star Trek history including:
  • Khitomer Accords
  • Destruction of Vulcan- 'Kelvin Timeline'
  • Xindi probe attack on Earth
  • Tomed Incident
  • Destruction of Praxis- Kronos
Just like before they were selected totally at random, meaning that we had no idea what order we were doing them in!
Part one: https://soundcloud.com/the-engage-podcast/days-that-changed-the-universe

We also carry on with our Annual podcast Quiz with a series of questions!!!

We travel across the pond (over to San Francisco) in our latest episode, as we boldly go and explore Starfleet Academy!
Deciding to take a tour, we learn all about the elite squads the Academy's had over the years. Including Nova Squadron and Red Squad. Stopping off at Phil's 'Strange New Worlds' along the way.

Picking up on the 'learning vibes' we each decide to take a couple of courses which takes our interest!

We also carry on with our Annual podcast Quiz with another series of themed questions!!!

In this episode, we take a brief look at Adam Nimoy's 2016 crowdfunded biographical documentary "For the Love of Spock". Giving our thoughts and feeling on the Netflix's accessible documentary.

Funded by (9,439) Kickstarter donors across the world, the documentary looks at his fathers (Leonard Nimoy) life and career (focusing on Mr Spock). While also examining Adam's relationship with his father.

In the first episode of a new series, we start to profiling different characters and starships through out the Star Trek universe. Beginning with everyone's favourite Android....Data!

In the first of two parts, we begin by talking about his long and eventful service history, his desire to become more human, and his use of contractions. Which we spend some time theorising about...whether it's related to his sentience.

In the concluding part of our first Character profile (of  Lieutenant Commander Data) we discuss the relationships Data formed. We firstly talk about his friends on the ship, in particular his Best Friend [Lieutenant Commander]Geordi (La Forge)!
Before ending the show by talking all about his ever growing (discovered) family whilst on board the Enterprise!!!

In this edition of the podcast, we look at the character development experienced by the main characters seen in the "Kelvin Timeline" films.
By working out how they've evolved between each of the three films we've seen them in (so far). Phil, meanwhile asks us a question which takes us through Starfleet's rank structure in his "Strange New Worlds".

While I (Simon) announce the winner of our Star Trek: The Next Generation Free Comic Book Day 2017 (FCBD 2017) "Mirror Broken" Giveaway!

Dream Crew Pre-recorded Done

In this Pre-recorded episode from August of 2015, we discuss which crew members we'd have in our dream crew... and why.
Obviously by divided them up into their chosen categories including:
  • Ship
  • Captain (and/or advisor)
  • First Officer
  • Second Officer/Operations Officer
  • Tactical Officer
  • Science Officer
  • Chief Engineer
  • Chief Medical Officer
  • Bartender
  • (2) Miscellaneous characters
  • Tactical Wild Card
  • Engineering Wild Card
  • Science Wild Card
As you can see, on top of those 'standard' dream crew categories. We decided to add a Wild Card category for the three primary divisions in Starfleet (Tactical, Engineering & Science) for good measure. With the proviso that it could be anyone from outside of the Star Trek franchise!
We hope you enjoy this 'blast from the past'!!!

In this new series of shows, we hand an episode over to one of our many friends in the Star Trek community.
To get us off to a great start, we asked Wayne & Jude (from the Trek Mate Podcast) to friendly takeover the show.

As it was their takeover episode, they (obviously!) decided to used their format.  Including a News section, a topic and their version of the quiz... the Trek Off!

On top of all of that, we also spend some time talking about their first convention, Trek On!

Impact of Star Trek: The Next Generation (featuring The Spoilist) Done

With the 30th Anniversary of Star Trek: The Next Generation only a couple of weeks away!
We thought it'd be the perfect opportunity to devote an entire episode to working out what kind of impact the series had on the Star Trek franchise and popular culture in general.
But this is something we couldn't do alone, so we invited Andrew, Alex and James from The Spoilist on as Guests. As they host the wonderful First Contact The Next Generation Introcast podcast!!!

Star Trek: Discovery pilot Episode Commentary Done

As you'll be able to tell from the title, we wanted to try something a bit different for the premiere of Star Trek: Discovery.
So instead of doing a review episode like everybody else... we decided to record an episode commentary for the first couple of episodes. Namely "The Vulcan Hello" and the "Battle at the Binary Stars".
Mainly because both episodes aired on Monday the 25th of September (Star Trek: Discovery launch date in the United Kingdom), and we wanted you to experience our innate reaction to a new Star Trek series in 12 years!!!

Starship Bridges, Part Two Done

Following on from our previous Starships Bridges episode, we delve into the deeply confusing and complex world of bridges designed by different Alien species in this edition of the podcast.
We look firstly at all the 'Hero' ship's bridges, but also talk about the wide variety of other Alien designs across all the different eras.
Lastly, we also carry on with our Annual podcast Quiz with another series of themed questions!

This was helped by contributions on Social Media (including Twitter and Facebook), who's opinions are mentioned in the episode!
Thank you for all those who contributed!!!

Rotten Rebellious Romulans Done

Jolan Tru (Romulan for hello) reader, in this episode of the podcast we talk about the renegade Vulcan's who described themselves as "those who march beneath the Raptor's wings". People who effectively turning their backs on Surak's teachings in the Time of Awakening.
Talking about the society they formed, including their reliance on the military. Before moving onto discussing their relationships with other species.

Phil, meanwhile asks us a question about the origins of the Romulans and their differences between the Vulcans in his "Strange New Worlds". We also carry on with our Annual podcast Quiz with another series of themed questions!!!

"Trials and Tribble-ulations" DS9 Episode Commentary Done

In this episode of the podcast, we conclude our 'Trouble Tribble Trilogy' by commenting on the aforementioned Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (DS9) episode "Trials and Tribble-lations". A show which pays homage to the first Star Trek: The Original Series episode we did in this trilogy ("Trouble with Tribbles").
We finish the episode by carrying on with our Annual podcast Quiz with another series of themed questions. We hope you enjoy our commentary!!!

Absent Friends 2017 Done

In this (annual) edition of the podcast, we discuss (and celebrate) the lives of four people associated with the Star Trek franchise we lost this year, and in previous years.
In this years episode we talk about one actor (Carolyne Barry), one actor/stuntwomen (Denise Lynne Roberts), and two members of production (Thomas E. Sanders & Michael Piller).
My they all Rest In Peace.

Star Trek ‘odds and ends’ Done

In our penultimate episode for 2017, we try to correct something that (for whatever reason) didn’t quite work for one us first time around.
Which in this instance includes a chance for Jamie to re-do his Dream Crew, as you may remember he got a bit confused when we originally recorded that episode. For Phil, it was a chance for him to brief us on his top five favourite episode from Season 3 of Star Trek: The Next Generation. As he had a prior commitment and was unavailable for the Season Review- TNG Season 3 episode recording.

Lastly in this episode, we also conclude this year Quiz. By doing two rounds of questions, which concluded with the cup handing over ceremony and forfeit.
We hope you enjoy it!!!

Yearbook 2017 Done

In the final episode of 2017, we cover our other annual episode type!

With the 25th Anniversary (#DS925) of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine this year, along with celebration surrounding it's pilot ("Emissary") being premiered on the 3rd of January.
We thought it'd be the perfect opportunity to devote an entire episode focusing on an element Star Trek: Deep Space Nine did particularly well… it's on-going story arcs. Some of which were prefaced in during the show's  pilot "Emissary".
But this is something we couldn't do alone, so joining us for the first show of the year is returning guest (and friend of the podcast) Clive from Some Kind of Star Trek (SKoST).

TEP Challenges Done

As the title suggests, this episode is based around a set of challenges designed for each of our ‘specialities’, to see just how much we know about our chosen subjects.
Each challenge is 30 questions long, which for me (Simon) turned into becoming 45 questions long. We’re also given two Get Out of Question Free Card Lifelines. So think of it how I once described it to Jamie "like a Quiz on steroids".
But you'll have to listen to the episode to find out why!

Influential Star Trek: The Animated Series (featuring Starbase 66) Done

With our month long hiatus over, we thought we'd celebrate the 45th Anniversary of Star Trek: The Animated Series. Along with it's pilot ("Beyond the Farthest Star") which premiered on the 9th of September.
Just like with the other recent anniversaries we've marked with an episode, we thought it'd be the perfect opportunity to focus on an element  Star Trek: The Animated Series did particularly well…influencing children. Forming the foundation of their love for the Star Trek franchise (and Science Fiction in general) into adulthood.
Before improvising and moving the discussion onto talking about the series in general. By talking about all the series' merits and the reasons why it should be considered canon!

Before realising that there's too much information for just one episode, meaning that we'll release a follow up episode sometime next year!
